Vote for a current Peace Corps Volunteer to be an Olympic torchbearer
Hi everyone,
I saw this on a PCV Yahoo group and thought you might be interested.
Stephanie
Friends,I'm a current PCV here in China and I've applied to become a torchbearer for theupcoming2008 Olympics. Part of the initial decision is based on how many votes you getonline, which means, I NEED YOUR HELP!!You can vote one time per ISP number, which means go to the university libraryand voteon different computers. Go to Internet cafes and vote. Vote on your homecomputer, work computer. Leave comments too to get more attention!100 people make it to the final round, so this is a goal within reach. Rightnow, 24 hoursafter registering, I'm in 6th place and one spot off the Top 5 leaderboard (whoget a lotmore attention). That is a lot of people and you can help me be one of them! Here is the website to vote for me:http://pub1.chinadaily.com.cn/olympics/torch/members.shtml?mid=36The main website with all the other applicants is here:http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/olympics/torch_page.htm lI would really love your help, it will only take 30 seconds. And plus, howgreat would it beto see a current PCV carrying the torch. Thanks,Matt ScrantonPCV, China 06-08PS - The voting only works in Internet Explorer, not Safari, Firefox or anyother browser.

Malawi internet radio
For those of you who like Malawian music go here:

it's not as good as MBC, mainly because there aren't commercials for Boom laundry soap.

Stephanie is looking for volunteers in NYC
Hi everyone!
Thank you so much Sarah and Merilee for your sweet anniversary picture!
Joaquin and I are doing well. Joaquin (along with all you NYC teachers) started teaching today. Classes begin at Teachers College tomorrow for both of us and so does my grad assistant job. Very exciting.
I'm writing this time, because my old employer, The Hunger Project, is looking for volunteers for their yearly fall event. This year there's going to be a village woman from Malawi who recieved a microfinance loan from The Hunger Project and is now part of a woman-run rural bank. I thought that some of you in the area might be interested in seeing her speak, and the only way to do that (other than buying a ticket to the dinner itself) is to be a volunteer at the event on Saturday night. So please see below for the official information in a link to Idealist.org. If you're interested in participating, the post says to email kp@thp.org. If you do volunteer you'll have to attend an orientation, and if some of you are interested let me know, and I'll arrange to go with you. It should be fun, and it is a chance to get dressed up, do minimal work, eat a free dinner, and see a woman from Malawi talk in front of a thousand people at the Hilton.

If you're interested, but don't live in NYC, you're welcome to stay with Joaquin and I for the weekend. :)
