update from Stephanie

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update on my end. I decided to go back to school! I've been accepted to the Columbia Teachers College Cognitive Studies in Education program. I'll be starting in September. I hadn't expected to do this, but it is working out nicely. I didn't realize when we first moved here that all the applied psychology programs for Columbia are housed in the Teachers College, everything from Developmental Psych to Counseling, to even Cognitive Studies. My program will be all about using what we know about cognitive psych and how to use that in the classroom. So this won't lead me to being a teacher at all (I leave that to those with more fortitude than I), but rather it will lead me to doing research in and for the classroom. I've been offered the job of graduate assistant in a lab that is doing research on reading and comprehension and catching kids before they are labeled learning disabled. I am so very excited. Please, though, if you happen to meet me for lunch or visit me at work, don't say anything just yet :-) We'll get to that a little later.
